Such was the story of this American couple, who arrived in Altea in search of rest… and found a new home.
The tranquillity of living in Altea
Altea is not just another destination. Its whitewashed streets, golden light, the serene silence of the old town and the gentle rhythm of the Mediterranean make it a place where time naturally slows down. It’s no surprise that many travellers who come here seeking disconnection end up wanting to stay.
That was exactly what happened to our protagonists, an American couple, from the very first moment. They had booked three nights at Hotel Ábaco as part of a longer journey through Spain. They came from Nerja, and their next destination was Roses. But something happened the moment they stepped into Altea: an immediate connection, a different kind of calm, an unmistakable intuition.
From rest… to the beginning of a new life
Before their arrival, they called us asking for help with transport. We arranged a trusted transfer for them from Nerja, and shortly after, another from Altea to Roses. Everything was planned.
But on the second day of their stay, they told us they had cancelled the next part of their trip.
They wanted to remain longer. They changed their tickets, postponed visits… and ended up extending their stay for two full months.
During that time, we shared coffees, walks, conversations and countless recommendations. They loved our terraces at sunset, the kindness of our team, the character of the rooms and the peacefulness of our courtyards. They embraced the slow pace of the town, explored craft shops, spoke to locals and wandered without rushing. They fell in love with the atmosphere, the way of life and that deep feeling of wellbeing that fills every corner.
A bond that leaves a mark
One of the most emotional moments came at the end of their stay, when they told us they had made an important decision:
They wanted to move to Altea.
They were no longer looking to simply invest in a property; they wanted to begin a new chapter of their lives by the Mediterranean. And then came the request that moved us even more:
they asked if we could help them recreate, in their new home, the bathroom from their room at Ábaco. They wished to keep that same sense of peace, warmth and attention to detail in their everyday life.
For us, there is no greater honour. Knowing that our way of welcoming, caring and creating spaces with soul has left such a meaningful impact. Because Ábaco is not just a hotel.
