Restaurants in Altea: our local recommendations to enjoy the destination
When we design the guest experience at Hotel Ábaco, we always keep one idea in mind: the experience does not end at the hotel. It continues with every stroll through the old town, every corner by the sea and, above all, every table shared.
Over the years, many guests have asked us where to eat in Altea. That is how this guide was born. It is not just another list, but a very personal selection created with care. These are places we know, recommend and believe perfectly complement the experience of staying with us.
A perfect stay cannot be understood without local flavours and long, unhurried meals. That is why we would like to share a few ideas to place the finishing touch on your visit to Altea.
Towards the beach: starting without haste
One of our favourite suggestions is simple: step out of the hotel and walk towards the sea. In that direction you will find some of the restaurants in Altea that we most often recommend for a calm start to the day or a relaxed lunch.
We especially enjoy terraces where the Mediterranean is always present. They are perfect places for a peaceful breakfast such as Quínoa, a rice dish by the sea like Juan Abril, or a sunset drink at La Mascarada. Everything here invites you to slow down, to talk without watching the clock and to let the sound of the waves set the pace.
Near the hotel: comfort and charm
There are also some very special options just a short walk from Hotel Ábaco. These are informal, welcoming restaurants with a warm atmosphere. Places we happily recommend for an impromptu dinner after a walk through the old town.
We like to suggest wine bars with local produce, small Mediterranean taverns or venues where quality is evident in every detail. They are perfect for getting around without a car and enjoying gastronomy at a relaxed pace. The Italian Il Timone Xpress, the traditional Xe Que Bo and the wonderful wine bar La Trova are, without doubt, among our favourites.
Around the church: the gastronomic heart of Altea
The area around the church is undoubtedly one of our favourites. Among cobbled streets and viewpoints you will find some of the most characterful restaurants in the village.
Here we often recommend intimate terraces, reinterpreted Mediterranean cuisine, cosy Italian restaurants and wine bars perfect for lingering after dinner. It is the ideal place for a special evening after exploring the old town at sunset. Xef Pirata, Nou Amiramar, El Castell and the prestigious Oustau offer a varied selection to suit every visitor.
The light, the atmosphere and the quiet turn each meal into something more than just a dining plan.
Altea and its surroundings: discovering new corners
Our guide also includes places in Albir and in the La Olla area of Altea. These are options we recommend when you feel like leaving the centre and discovering restaurants by the sea or surrounded by nature.
In Albir, do not miss the Japanese-Vietnamese Be Katsu, the traditional Can Tapetes or Enriques, where you can enjoy excellent seafood and fish.
If you prefer La Olla, we are sure that L’Olleta Club del Mar, El Cranc and the beachfront spots El Sigarro and Arrecifes will become your favourites.
We love suggesting these places to complete a beach day or a peaceful excursion. They are spots where gastronomy blends with the landscape and each meal becomes part of the journey.
A guide created with care
This selection comes from our own experience and from our wish that you enjoy Altea as we -Adelina and Thomas- do. Not every restaurant is included, because we know the village is full of discoveries. But those listed here are the ones we feel closest to, for their atmosphere, their quality and their approach to hospitality.
We like to think that, after a memorable meal, you will return to the hotel with the feeling that you have discovered the most authentic and welcoming side of Altea — the same essence that defines Hotel Ábaco.
For us, recommending a restaurant is also a way of caring for your stay. And sharing these places is, ultimately, sharing a little of how we experience Altea.
